In order to achieve the Education 2030 Agenda, lifelong learning must govern future global education policy-making. In line with this, and as the only organization in the UNESCO family with a specific mandate to promote lifelong learning, the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) will host an information meeting – ‘Making lifelong learning a reality: The contribution of UIL to the SDG 4 agenda’ – at UNESCO HQ on Tuesday, 26 March.

Lifelong learning is an integral part of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which calls on Member States to ‘ensure inclusive, equitable, quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’, and the corresponding Education 2030 Agenda. At last year’s Global Education Meeting in Brussels, the need to actively promote lifelong learning was repeatedly highlighted. UIL consistently seeks to address this need through lifelong learning policy development, capacity building, research, monitoring and advocacy, hosting many flagship projects that have one common objective: to promote ‘lifelong learning opportunities for all’.

During the meeting in Paris, which will take place from 15:00 to 17:00 CET, UIL, along with the Permanent Delegation of Germany to UNESCO, will illustrate the Institute’s activities and approaches to achieve lifelong learning for all by 2030. Representatives of UNESCO Members States, including from Colombia and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, will also share their perspectives.
